Conditions where the main issues are the result of the patients’ body position / alignment. This is the situation found in Phase 2 and 3 of a CSM Stretch or Compress type dysfunction. The types of treatment that would be effective would be ones that focus on improving muscle balance, posture and structural alignment.
This would include the following treatments:
- Chiropractor / Seitai
- Myofascial release / Rolfing
- Feldenkrais
- Physiotherapist (who focuses on manual therapy and body alignment )
- Osteopath . Muscle energy
- Other = Any therapy which focuses on muscle balance and alignment issues.
Types of dysfunction
CSM Compress – Phase 2: Injury phase
- The determining factor for this phase of healing is pain with Passive Range of Motion (There is pain when you are relaxed and someone else moves your body or limbs?)
- The pain is accompanied with damage to the tissue or nerves, which requires protecting and time to heal. Taping and wrapping are appropriate and treatments should be focused on aligning the body to reduce stress on the injured area.
- Expected healing time: The patient should have no pain with Passive Range of Motion after 1-6 weeks from the time the patient enters the phase or begins therapy with an appropriate therapist.
CSM Compress – Phase 3: Neurological phase
- The determining factor for this phase of healing is pain with Active Range of Motion? (There pain when you move your body yourself without any added resistance or excessive pressure? )
- The Injury protecting process of Phase 2 is almost complete. Now the damaged tissues need to strengthen and heal. In this phase the Alignment / Muscle Imbalance may cause the muscles or tendons to not ” turn off” properly to release the tension or not “turn on” properly to stabilize and support the joint.
- Expected healing time: The patient should have no pain with Active Range of Motion after 2-8 weeks from the time the patient enters the phase or begins therapy with an appropriate therapist.
